LBS Mural- Artists At Work!

Our amazing 4th graders have begun the task of creating a beautiful mural to be enjoyed by all! Last year, students learned about the aspects of mural creation and its elements.  Work on the mural was started by sketching in a grid format.  Each student was given a 20″ x 24″ grid to complete a sketch to proportion from a master drawing. Students were asked to give input regarding  the native and endemic flora and fauna depicted in the Channel Islands mural.  As you can see, these talented artists are beginning by blocking in the background and foreground of the mural before moving on to the birds, sea creatures and plants that will be added during the next sessions.  We want to thank Mrs. Abrams and Ms. Svedlund for their dedication to excellence. Stay tuned for an update!

News from the science room:

The Poppy Seed Fundraiser Project officially began Sept. 5!

JMG groups, schools, 4-Hers or other youth groups are invited honor veterans with the Poppy Seed Fundraiser Project and raise funds to both:
1. Help Build the National World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C.
2. AND raise funds for their local group or school! (These funds could go to support garden projects, other local needs, or even charitable service projects.)

JMG is proud to partner with the World War One Centennial Commission’s Poppy Seed Program for this very special national AND local fundraiser project! For each $2 packet of seeds sold, $1 goes to the WW1 Memorial project and $1 goes to the local school/group!

The project and officially kicks off Sept.5 and goes through Oct.20.
AND the 4 top selling JMG groups will be sponsored to attend the WWI Memorial Groundbreaking this November!

Hello 4th Grade!

Welcome to 4th grade at Laguna Blanca Lower School!  I’m excited to partner with you this year as we focus on fostering a growth mindset in and out of the classroom. What is a growth mindset you may ask?  It’s the notion that students can “grow their brains” and increase their intellectual abilities through hard work, learning, training, feedback and grit. Be on the lookout for our classroom activities that display this mindset.  In the meantime, HAPPY GROWING to all!
